Kalabhavan Niju Passes Away While Shooting For Kantara 2

On 13 June 2025, Kalabhavan Niju, the veteran mimicry artist and actor, succumbed to a cardiac arrest, while filming Kantara: Chapter 1 (also known as Kantara 2) in Bengaluru. He began suffering from severe pain in his chest during the day, and was rushed to a hospital and unable to be revived. His death has left the production team mourning another tragic occurrence during filming.

Junior artist dies after drowning in river at movie shoot

A junior artist drowned in the Souparnika River in Kollur near Karnataka while the Kantara 2 shoot had stopped for lunch in early may 2025. The crew were forced to take an unscheduled break after the tragic accident. The producers made clear the accident happened during a private break and not during actual shooting, but it still put a shadow over the project.

Context and Film Implications

Kantara 2 has suffered several setbacks: A river drowning, rain damage to sets in Kerala and now this tragedy. Despite all of this, the public has been assured that production remains on schedule for the projected October 2, 2025 (Gandhi Jayanti) theatrical release.

The chain of unfortunate events might have affected the production morale and schedules, but the team is trying hard to produce film with high technical values.
